I came for the surfing at Arugam Bay but stayed for the culture, the people, and the best kottu roti I've ever tasted. Sri Lanka has an energy I've never felt anywhere else.

Everything You Need to Know Before You Go
Answers to the most common questions about planning a Sri Lanka trip.
Sri Lanka has two monsoon seasons, so the best time depends on where you go. The west and south coasts are best from November to April. The east coast (Trincomalee, Arugam Bay) is best from May to September. The cultural triangle and hill country are pleasant year-round.
The iconic hill country train is a must-do experience. Tuk-tuks are perfect for short hops in towns. For longer journeys, private drivers or intercity buses offer flexibility and comfort. Hiring a driver-guide for a full tour is very popular and affordable.
A classic circuit covering the cultural triangle, hill country, and south coast takes 10–14 days. A shorter 7-day trip can cover highlights like Sigiriya, Kandy, Ella, and Galle. We recommend at least 10 days to truly experience the island's diversity.
Absolutely. Budget travellers can comfortably explore Sri Lanka for $30–50 USD per day including accommodation, food, and transport. Mid-range travellers typically spend $80–120/day, while luxury options are available from $200+/day.
Sri Lanka uses the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). ATMs are widely available in cities and tourist areas. It's advisable to carry some cash for smaller towns, street food, and tuk-tuks. Credit cards are accepted at most hotels and restaurants.
